Unique Situation - Need Advice!

I'll make this short. I got hired as an off-cyle analyst at a BB not too long ago in a S&T role. I was desperate for a job since I had just graduated, but I hate my job. It's not providing me any useful skills and the exit opps for this would be trash.

I want to do IB and with recruiting season in full-force, I wanted to hit up HR and ask if I could interview for FT positions in IB. I think it's a high risk strategy, where if I could explain my situation (want IB, didn't go thru training program, etc.) and things would be OK. However, just being on the job a few months and interviewing for an obviously-not IB role, they could tell me to shut the fuck up or pack my bags.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Or does it just make sense to go through other firm's recruiting?

I'd much rather be in S&T....

Just approach HR or people in charge of recruiting and say that you want to keep your options open for FT and would be interested in speaking with bankers. Don't say that you wanna move over to the banking side because you hate your S&T stint. You can also reach out to other firms.
