US Capital Partners (SF) Interview Help!

Hey everyone!

First post,

I'm going to have an interview (excel case study, roughly 30 min) at US Capital Partners (boutique SF shop). Was wondering if anyone would like to shed some light on what it entails?! I would really like to work at this firm and any help would be great!

Since it's not your typical M&A shop, I don't know if I should prep DCF/3statement modeling.

Someone on Glassdoor mentioned, "revolved around evaluating a company on its eligibility to receive credit." Does anyone know what that means or what I should prepare for? Any online sites/files I should look to practice?

Thanks, Bankerofthestreetz

I haven't heard of this group before, but they seem to be heavy on asset-based lending focus. I would google and read up on what ABL is (ABL primers would be helpful; e.g., https://www.key.com/corporate/financing/asset-based-lending-overview.jsp). In ABL, the key aspect of lending is advance rates. You are lending based on some percentage of asset value, similar to a traditional mortgage (e.g., A/R at ~85% LTV, Inventory at 60% LTV, Equipment at 50% LTV).

I don't think you should completely discount modeling, but if anything, it will likely be LBO-style model since debt service is important (dictates the advance rates for the ABL facilities).

Thank you for the quick response and the link!

Really want to land this opportunity.

For someone who doesn't know anything about ABL, do you recommend certain sites or excel templates online that would give me real excel practice?

This is for an intern/pre-Analyst role by the way so I don't expect "too" much for a 30 min test. However, I'm just more familiar with 3-statement/DCF (from courses in school).
