What advice would you give?

Hi everyone, I recently graduated from a west coast non target, and I just got an off-cycle internship at a MM, doing ER. It is a long-term internship (not sure if it comes up with a FT offer after that, because it depends on whether an associate leaves the Research department or not)

The MD has BB background, and pushes interns hard. Last week was my first week, and I had already needed to do revisions for some assignments and work extra hours. I feel confident though, and I can stand his pushing me forward.

I would just like some advice on how to be a good intern in ER.

E.g., we have an intern manual and I have read it carefully. There's something that's not said there, but the MD's email said: Wrong blah blah, you should blah blah, got it ? (He expected me to know it, but without the manual specifying this I really didn't)

What do I do to avoid this kind of situation next time ?

Thanks.

Things like that are always going to pop up now and again, especially since you're new. Don't take it personally or overthink it, just learn from it for next time.

Couple of things you could try:

-Review similar reports/projects that have been done in the past to get a sense of how things should look/be structured/etc.

-Ask junior guys about best practices (esp. those not listed in the manual)

-if another junior person has the time, you can ask if they could take a quick look at your materials before sending to MD, just be considerate about it
