What can my firm see when they look through my phone history?

My firm forbids us from using texting or any other sort of non-encrypted platform when communicating with clients or coworkers on sensitive information.

My big question is, how the fuck do they go about doing these screens without completely invading your privacy? In order to scan for this information, my assumption is that they have to conduct an in-depth screen of all your activity? Seems like a massive invasion of privacy. A friend of a friend who works in tech told my buddy that if it were him, he would definitely get a second phone for personal use (and have a work phone strictly for business).

Anyone with any knowledge on this topic care to chime in?

The texting scandals in recent months were large WhatsApp groups of whole teams of traders including seniors, not you texting your one analyst buddy that ClientName is kicking your ass this weekend.

I believe the SEC can subpoena your phone but they realistically don't for this type of thing, maybe if you were running some huge ring, but they're not subpoening thousands of juniors over text compliance. As for how it gets found out, the banks can detect on Teams "check your texts" "i just sent it on WhatsApp" at my bank these types of phrases are warned against even if they're innocuous because it gets flagged.

I have two phones but that is my firm's doing and they pay the bill. iMessage doesn't work and you can only download work apps. In the same vein, they own it and could take it for an investigation if you wanted. I wouldn't buy/pay for a second work phone if it wasn't free. Your work definitely cannot see all of your texts or anything outside of their encrypted work app. IMO keep the one phone and just stay away from sending confidential info in texts, even if it's to your associate or whatever

Hypothetically, they probably can't see what you text or what's on your phone unless they've installed security software on it that would allow that, but you'd probably know if that was on there.

My bank switched to having all comms done via teams so they could have a record of everything. No security software, so they could only see what's on our phones if it was subpoenaed.
