What can you do in 5 minutes?
So I've been sending out e-mails to alumni, including a senior MD at a very strong boutique and he responded with something along the lines of asking me to call him and that I would have five minutes to speak with him.
Now this is quite strange since he specifically said that I would have five minutes. What do I say in those short five minutes I have with this guy? And what do I do at five minutes and one second? What kind of stuff should I say besides telling my story, or should I let him speak more?

You've gotta get your sales pitch down fast and weave it into a story. Imagine you're putting a sales brochure together on yourself.
You studied at X, TA'd these classes, have this relevant industry experience, and also have Z to offer. He's got a lot of great choices, but you think you can really help him on his next deal.
You can be flexible on pay your first year- as long as it covers a middle-class existence in New York/Chicago/Philly/wherever. This is a win-win; you get experience working on deals, and he gets your skills on the cheap.
get him on skype and show him that you can whack off in 3 minutes and that leaves 2 minutes to walk him through your fucking awful resume detailing all your little faggot clubs and groups that you were in during undergrad.
Sounds like you're one sneeze away from a full-on murderous rampage. Where's Chief John Anderton when you need him?
A+++ would read again
3 minutes?!?! You must not be watching that bukkake that Kenny Powers and I love so much!
I can name that tune in 2 minutes.
Regards
haha wow. Bringing the heat right away.
It depends on your purpose. Are you networking to get information, or to get a job? If it's to get a job, prepare like it's a sales pitch like IlliniProgrammer writes. If it's to get information, ask very smart, pertinent questions that get at exactly what you need to know to land an offer. No BS or questions about working at the firm, that shows you're an idiot, MD's can pick up idiots in 10 seconds. Be smart and ambitious.
Put together a sales pitch. Sell yourself based on your experience, whatever that may be. If you're a great salesman, you might just be lucky enough to get an interview... maybe.
hit it off strong and i am sure those 5 minutes will extend to more time. really have a good conversation starter and get him into a few questions he is bound to ask. dont know what would be a good intro in your case but i am sure you can come up with something
You know when I saw this thread title, I opened it all excited to make a joke about jerking off. Now that I see I've been beaten to the punch, I'm both proud and sad-this must be what it feels like when your kids start being able to out-arm wrestle you.
