What do I call myself?

Hello everyone. I am a member of the Regulatory Dilligence Group on a Muni Trading Desk, within the public Finance area of IB. It's a large bank, but definitely not BB. I'm sure all you guys can kind of guess what that implies. I'm not really complaince, nor legal, and I'm definitely not a banker/analyst. It's kind of a mix. I do the prep work and anything related to regulatory requirements (MSRB, SEC, OCC, AML, blue sky laws, client engagement, everything you can think of that has a regulatory implication at the federal, state, local level.)to make the bankers' lives as smooth as possible. I sit next to them on the trading floor (not sure why).

I'm also licensed with FINRA, and may soon have the opportunity to take a principal level exam, both a series 24 and 53.

My girlfriend, and my parents tell me they have no idea what to say when someone asks what I do.

Telling them im in the IB division implies im a banker, telling them im in legal is even less accurate. What do I call myself in short, what can I present as a quick title to tell people what I am? Analyst? I have no clue myself. "Regualtory Dillegence in an IB" seems to confuse people, surprisingly.

Thanks in advance!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are a few suggestions for a concise and clear title you can use to describe your role:

  1. Regulatory Compliance Analyst: This title captures your focus on regulatory requirements and compliance without implying you're a banker or in legal.
  2. Regulatory Affairs Specialist: This emphasizes your expertise in handling regulatory matters across various levels.
  3. Regulatory Diligence Officer: This title highlights your role in ensuring regulatory compliance and diligence within the investment banking division.

These titles should help convey your responsibilities accurately without causing confusion.

Whatever you call yourself, it sure sounds boring. Good luck with that.
