Props to Carlyle for not being dicks about it

Tone is so hard to read over text. It came across to a lot of people in the industry as tasteless (and people not in the industry obviously loved the extra ammo to hate the Evil Incarnate Succubus that is Wall St.), but anyone who's been through an analyst program knows the humor that's the basis of that email.

Being an intern sucks. It's tough. You don't know how to apply what you learned in class to real projects, you don't know whether you're supposed to be a complete minion at the bottom of the totem pole or someone who has a voice and an identity within the group, you don't know whether you have any say in your staffings, it's 10 weeks on eggshells. Hell, some analysts never figure all that out.

A short email making fun of all that in an over-the-top tone of officious sarcasm isn't worth firing someone over. Good for Carlyle for honoring his offer. Hell, have you seen their Christmas videos? He'll fit right in with that sense of humor.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.
