What happens if you do not receive Associate offer (A2A?)

For analysts who do not receive the associate offer and are not going to PE what are their options?

I heard they get slotted into a different job within their bank, like MO or consultant...

how real is this?

When does this usually happen? I figured many folks are curious.

Have never seen them get moved to a different role within the bank

Typically these discussions happen early in the second year, so you'd have a full year's notice. Lateral to a different bank, likely do a third analyst year, and hit associate there.

Honestly though, have never seen anyone who put in any effort at all not get an associate offer. Forced to do a 3rd year? Absolutely. But 2 years of experience puts you way ahead of even the best MBA associate as an Aso1, since you'll know how to model, team idiosyncrasies, etc.

This is nice to hear. I've only just started but I feel as though this will be me. I'll probably continue to suck pretty bad until next spring, get a stern talking to, and then pull it together. That's always how its been for me. Hoping to go A2A but doing a third year wouldnt be bad. Also getting coaching out doesnt seem too bad either as it gives you plenty of time to weigh your options and make some educated choices.
