What is it really like working at an EB?

To those who have worked at an EB for 1+ years, what’s your experience been like? Do you really put in 90+ hours regularly or do you have many 65-70 hour weeks too? Are the exit opportunities and pay actually great (UMM + MF, $180k+ for analyst)?

Also, what do you dislike the most about your role, and would you advise students to pick an EB over a BB? I would appreciate your honest feedback, and thank you in advance!

Ignore title, lateraled from a good-not-great MM to an EB about 16 months ago

The work is the exact same. Same hours, same personalities, same bullshit. Deal size is honestly about the same too.

Yeah the exits I've seen are a bit better, but that's pretty much the only difference.

Currently at a MM, and one of my roommates is at an EB. We both have buyside exits, but will say my roommate seems to work 15 hours more per week than I do as I have noticed he normally gets home 3+ hours later than I do each day. However, his bonus last year was nearly 2x what mine was.

With any IB experience, it's all group dependent. With that said, during my analyst year, my friend/roommate was at GS/JPM/MS while I was at an EB and our hours and work experience were very similar. To be completely transparent, at the time, the only gap between our analyst stints was the end of year comp where EB bonus was amongst top of street, while BB came in about ~20% lower for top-bucket (will caveat it's generally known that BB bonus payout isn't always top of street given prestige/brand name credibility during analyst year, but will be made whole at associate level).

Overall, there isn't a right or wrong answer to EB or BB as both are at the highest levels, but would rather dial in based on team dynamic and personal preference of group/industry coverage.
