Totally agree, do not mention the lending / Balance Sheet of the bank. Banks that typically competed on advice are now also increasingly finding ways to compete using a balance sheet. Case in point, Morgan Stanley advising Bristol Myers on the $74B acquisition of Celgene (google the cheesy named WSJ article “The Muscle Morgan Stanley Flexed...”). They were able to lend $33.5B in acquisition financing which is insane for a non- JPM / BAML / Citi
