What is unprofessional?

Hey monkeys - interning at an Asset Management firm, looking to make the switch to IBD once school ends. I've been looking anywhere and everywhere for contact information of bankers to cold e-mail/cold call, to little avail. A proposal for a transaction came across my desk at work today, with the contact information of 3 MDs, 3 associates and 2 analysts of my first choice company. Is it unprofessional to contact these bankers through such means? If not, how would I explain to them how I got their contact information?

Cheers

If your 'first choice company' is a top bank that is widely known, it is most likely that they get tons of cold e-mails due to people figuring out e-mail formats. If the bank isn't as I described, however, it will definitely come off as a little more questionable. Either way, I would choose to e-mail them instead of calling them, as it might come off strange that you found their numbers.

Let me know if that helps.

If it's a small firm and you're trying to break in as an analyst, I always imagine it would be seen as a good thing that you were able to figure out their unlisted email addresses. Shows how good you are at your ability to dig deep and get the information you need.

But in real life, they'll probably not be too happy that you have their emails if they are a smaller firm. If it's like JPM or GS, you can get their email format in 2 minutes and just change the names around so it's not that hard.
