What should I spend my break doing?
I'm a non-finance major in my sophomore year and I'm just wondering if I should jump straight into modeling or learn accounting first. What do you guys think? I want to do something that will help me out the most for applying to IBD SA positions next school year.
Learning accounting, at least at a base level will be super helpful for modeling, so I would go for the accounting first, but props to you for using your break to better yourself.
Also, in my experience I have gotten more straight accounting questions in ibd interviews than modeling questions. That may also be because I am studying finance and accounting and they want to make sure I'm awake in class.
Spend your break networking for an internship for this summer.
Well I will be doing this as well. Sending emails/making calls in the day and learning modeling or accounting during the night.

Do you guys think that bankers would be receptive to networking during the break? I know that many will be away for the holidays as many of the clients are gone for their vacations and breaks.
Not sure what your break schedule is like, but you can hit the networking hard starting first week in January if you are worried about people being on vacation. Also, if you already know the people, then definitely they will be happy to catch up. If they are away on vacation they will tell you/you can always send a follow up communication a week later.
