What should the kid do?
So my brother isn't a huge fan of this site (first mistake) but I wanted to get everyones input.
He landed a FT gig at a MM IB today as an analyst, solid comp and bonus. He has been out of school since last May, ran our family business while looking.
Had a final round in a week with the head of S&T at a BB, had a beer with the guy this afternoon at 5PM and won him over, wants him to meet the remainder of the desk to see if there is a fit.
The catch is the MM IB wants a commitment by Monday and the S&T guy wants to line up next discussions that morning...
what are your guys thoughts on what this kid should do...I told him to take the gig in IB and if he lands the S&T gig prior to his start date and wants it to reneg but expect it to be a ugly goodbye.
the S&T guy will make a decision on monday morning, but he has untill the end of monday to make a decision on the MM? I dont see the problem?
S&T guy wants to have him into sit on his desk and to line that up Monday morning as a final round interview, the MM offer is good through Monday.
It wasn't with a bank, but I was given a 3 day time limit to accept my first FT offer. I told them I needed more time and dragged it out to a month and a half. I'm not saying you can take a month and a half... but just say you're excited about the offer and ask if you can consider it until the end of the week so you can make a more confident decision.
The time limit they gave is probably some standard HR policy, but it's negotiable. Don't reneg and get yourself blacklisted. They have metrics around how many offers get rejected. They don't want to lose you after the offer has been made. They'll work with you.
You have to play a game with both sides. Tell the MM IB that you need a few more days to think about, but most importantly, he should tell the S&T guys about the exploding offer. This can lead into why he wants to do S&T over IB, and it also makes him look more desirable.
^ appreciate this...solid
Where's the bank? Just wondering because I'm waiting to hear back about a FT offer that I recently interviewed for and am looking for some indication as to how long this will take. They said I'd hear Friday or Monday. Not enjoying the waiting thus far.
The BB is in NY
did your brother get the S&T job?
