MBTrading is also good, you can do flat rate at $5 or 1cent/share ($1 min).
Scottrade is great... $7 flat rate.
I don't trade often enough to really get caught up in saving a few bucks here and there on the few trades I make per year.

Scottrade, very fast trades, extremely reliable, and the support is outstanding. Never realize how important it is until you really need it.
I don't "trade" stocks...its more like catching falling knives then anything else...fucking istar (SFI)
but I use Scottrade (very cheap, reliable, great customer service, now hidden fees)
Don't trade stocks; just keep your money stashed under your mattress and let inflation/dollar decline do its work

Many banks restrict where and when you can trade stocks... as in which brokers you can use etc. because they have to monitor everything. I had some friends who had to switch accounts and such when they found this out.
I don't trade actively (especially not now with this job...) but Scottrade is good for the low fees. I'm not sure if they have a deal where you can pay lower fees with dollar-cost averaging or any schemes like that but would be great if they did.
I've used E-Trade and Ameritrade before, to me there wasn't a huge difference but both have higher fees than Scottrade.
I myself will have to Axe the Ameritrade account when I go to work... not like I've done anything with it for several months. I don't want high blood pressure from watching 1.5% swings in the Dow every damn day.
i use thinkorswim.com for options and a few futures
