Where to look for opportunities?
I'm currently a CPA with two years of experience at a big-4 firm trying to switch into IB. I'm willing to relocate and begin at entry-level, and I figure NY would probably be the path of least resistance. The extent of my search so far has been through LinkedIn, but it looks like a lot of the postings there either apply to students or are looking for someone with 2+ years experience in IB. If there's anyone out there who has made a similar transition, where did you look to find IB opportunities? I know accounting > IB is a tough transition so I'm also actively looking at M&A roles, but I figured it would be worth it to at least apply to some IB opportunities, I'm just trying to figure out where the best place to find those are.
You probably need to get your MBA. Very few get to IB directly from big4 but not impossible. I’ve met one guy that got into a solid MM from big4 audit.
A ton of people have made the switch without the MBA. If you want EB / BB / Upper MM, I would go about it like this:
When making your initial list of folks to reach out to, don't worry about whether or not they made the switch directly from audit or if they got their MBA first.
If you are interested in regional LMM, then you can probably just apply online. In Philly for example, it is common practice for the local IB to hire analysts from Big 4 instead of fresh college grads.
Good luck, audit junior folks are ridiculously underpaid for the amount of work they do.
