which banks ask for references?
For SA, which banks ask for references? I noticed Greenhill asks for one in their application process, any others?

Do I-Banks call references for incoming FT analysts? (Originally Posted: 09/15/2016)
I want to interview for this BB IB FT interview invite that I received, but I had summered at an accounting firm and have actually already committed to their return offer. Since I obviously want to do IB over audit, naturally I want to take the interview with the intent of reneging on the public accounting firm if I get it.
Problem is, I have to list my references for all past employers, which would obviously include the firm I most recently summered at. I'm afraid that if they call the accounting firm, my manager there will be notified that I'm looking elsewhere (getting that offer rescinded) and the bank will also be pissed that I'm interviewing after commitment and kill my application.
So I guess whether or not I accept this dream job interview that pays 2.5x the salary will hinge on whether or not banks call references...Does anyone have an idea? I know for the accounting firm, they had me list references but never called them.
Is this a risk worth taking?
Dude, I don't mean to be rude, but you've made three threads now about this same exact topic. At this point, I don't see what other advice anyone could possibly give you.
If you got the BB offer and they called your accounting firm for a reference, the chances of them dinging you at that point for reneging on the accounting offer are slim to none. 1). HR and bankers at a BB aren't going to care about an offer in an unrelated industry and 2). they've already made the offer, so why would they pull the offer back now?
I apologize for the spamming, it's just my paranoia that everything will blow up. The downside is huge because if the accounting offer blows up, they'll also call my OCR (I got it through OCR) which will ban me, then I might as well end up homeless..
Not to mention even if HR and bankers don't care about my reneging, the accounting firm may just shit on my reference simply due to my reneging. I guess I'll have to let the bankers know ahead of time (If I get an offer, ofc, chances of which are slim too) that the accounting firm probably hates me.
Thank you though. I appreciate your insight.
