why does a HR person want to talk?

I recently reached out to a Managing Director with whom I share a connection at a boutique firm (Evercore/Perella Weinberg/PJT). The MD kindly forwarded my email to a HR representative who then scheduled a call. However, I'm not exactly sure what the purpose of this call might be.

To provide a little context, my primary aim has been networking for a full-time position for 2024. I'm currently a junior and I've secured an internship in Investment Banking for this upcoming summer.

Any insights or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

had one of these calls with HR many times when I was looking for SA positions. In my experience, they just want to get to know what you know about the firm and just see your personality a little bit. My advice is just to be yourself, which I know is really bland but its the only piece of advice that has worked for me
