why ficc

Dear All,

I am quite curious why the big IBs always put FICC together. It makes sense to me to organise fixed income and currency desks together for the sake of efficient cross-border financing. But why bring in the commodity desk at all? Commodity looks totally independent of the fixed income and currency area. Any one has an idea about that? Is there any synergy effect to bring them together?

Thanks in advance.
