Banking as an analyst has a lot of mundane work that requires no more than a monkey could do. Modelling (M&A tends to do if your bank separates into product / industry groups) is arguably the most interesting and the one thing to remind you that you are still slightly more superior than a trained monkey. On top of that, big PE firms like smart individuals that worked deals where they modeled because they offer less training.
