Can someone tell me why noncontrolling interest isnt included in equity value? If noncontrolling interest is interest in voting stock, isnt voting stock included in basic shares outstanding?

basically, NCI is the part that isn't owned by the parent company... you have to take it out since the subsidiary's financial statements were consolidated with the parent's even though the subsidiary probably wasn't 100% owned by the parent
