Work Experience for post-MBA IB Associate Recruiting

Is 3 years of W.E. enough when recruiting specifically for IB associate internships? How important is W.E. to banks? Is the W.E. mainly used when answering interview questions? I know that 2 years W.E. is seen as too few, especially if not in the field.

I have seen IB associates with 3 years W.E. pre-MBA, but the majority have between 4-5 years.

To give a little background, I would have 1 year in an engineering role and 2 years in an engineering finance role.

Thank you.
