What location is this ? If NY go for Stifel. HSBC doesn't have a strong presence in the US.
Do some leg work and figure out which one works on the most actual deals. I think HSBC pitches a lot in M&A, but I don't know how many actual solid M&A deals the do in the US
Stifel. Not even a question in my opinion.
Go where you like the people most. You can always recruit again at end of summer. Regardless, slight advantage goes to HSBC due to name and guranteed group placement.
