Hi all -
I'm trying to chart out the effect of increased yield spreads (higher cost debt) on the decreased activity of financial sponsors in 2008. I have the financial sponsor activity taken care of, but I need some advice as to how to best show the yield spread on triple B credit (or an equivalent proxy for the cost of debt to a financial sponsor for a portfolio acquisition). I know that the TED spread is a good indication of the willingness for banks to lend to one another, but I need something that shows their unwillingness to lend into PE deals. I'm really most interested in the effect on middle market deals, but can just as easily look at the entire market if that's easier.
I have access to Capital IQ, but I'm just not sure which bond index would best approximate this across all industries.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to read through some of the primers on the S&P LCD site, but can't access any of the actual data without a subscription.
Any ideas on how to accomplish this with publicly available data and Capital IQ?
