Advice needed: Trying to get into a HK finance role

Hi everyone, I am an accounting undergraduate from Singapore in his final semester. I am planning to apply for the Oxford MFE programme in a year's time after graduation (because I havent taken my GMAT) and am trying to spend this "gap" year working in Hong Kong. As I do not have any contacts in HK's finance industry and I dont have a stellar CV (relatively new and unpopular university, 86% GPA, one PE internship, one boutique IB internship, an audit internship at the big 4), I havent gotten any luck so far with my applications to PE firms (both for internships and graduate positions). I didn't bother applying to IB roles as I thought these big firms would probably be more picky about the candidates they choose for interviews. I also heard that HK firms usually recruit local graduates? Wouldnt mind any related roles such as corp fin, banking, etc. Would greatly appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks alot!
