Am I Fucked??
Have an analyst who has been repeatedly dodging my messages, whenever I ask for work she leaves me on read and I do nothing for her. I feel like she closed me out of the deal. It’s the only coverage group I’m actively working with (TMT at MM).
My other TMT deal is fine and I’m working on it, though I make mistakes. I know I have been putting out good work for this one and I’ve constantly helped out even at 3am. I’ve put all of my energy heart and soul into getting this return offer but I feel like I simply won’t get it. What’s the fucking point of all this extra shit I’m doing for the next week or so if my decision is already made??
I actually want to cry right now I’m so fucking stressed out. I need help, I’m lost and I’m terrified of finding myself unemployed.
She's just ghosting you as a shit test bro, just ignore her or neg her if you see her in person and she'll come back to you
She might just be jammed and not want to deal with teaching an intern - while it's a great thing to want to help out and you have to learn, it still does add to an analyst's load when they have to check or redo a lot of the work. What kind of mistakes have you been making?
Unless you are doing terrible work it's likely not personal and may not impact your offer. That said, it never hurts to start reaching out to your network to get in the loop for any FT processes
During my internship in IB, I had a quite low workload during the first two weeks. Every day, I asked everyone if there was anything I could help out with. I quickly noticed that some of them became annoyed by me asking and some of them were thankful and gave me some minor tasks. After a while, I just stopped asking those who became annoyed and didn't give me any tasks. Instead, I focused on getting more and more work from those who were thankful and actually gave me some work. With that said, I would not care about her and just try to find work from someone else.
This^. I always appreciate the interns asking if they can help out with anything, but I’m selective which ones I actually take them up on (ones with a great attitude who I know can get some direction and run to a semi-complete work product)
Just feel it out with the analysts/associates. Don’t need to ask everyday but if people get annoyed that’s just who they are, and you probably don’t have a great relationship with them.
I’m someone who doesn’t try to force relationships in the office, from An-MD. If I have something meaningful to say to an MD then sure I’ll go into their office to chat, but they’re too busy building their books to have the weekly “hey how’s it going” chat with. I’ve developed very very strong relationships with a few members of the group taking this approach, and the ones who understand this really respect it.
Agree with the above sentiments. If you’re applying yourself & have demonstrated intellectual curiosity, you’ve done all that you can do. Don’t stress over things that are outside of your control. It’ll all work out.
She is probably busy. If she doesn’t respond on multiple occasions I would take it as a sign and focus my effort on other people who are more receptive.
Decisions could have been made, but either way you have a long career ahead so keep your chin up. Even if you are working with this bank or another bank, try not to end the internship with a messy attitude as finance is a small world and your reputation is everything.
