am I the backup candidate?
I was told by the hiring manager that they narrowed down to two people and I am one of them.
they asked me to have coffee with the person who was in that position and confirm with them that joining the firm is a long term career decision for me ( I moved around a bit). So I did and also sent an email to confirm my interest.
Here is the original emai from the hiring managerl:
" if the conversation with ** confirms your interest in joinng...we will then move on to reference checks and makinga decision once I return to the office the week of Jan 7"
Today is Thursday, and I havent heard a thing from the hiring manager. I have not been asked for reference either. am I placed as the backup candidate? any thoughts?

Called and emailed! i was told that "We will be making a decision this week. You should hear from me by Friday."
I think this is not going well, I am not being asked for references and I guess I am not the selected one:(
