Analyst Age
How common is it to become an analyst at 24? Coming from a school where it seems like everyone is just going straight into Analyst positions, I did not get offered and am curious as to how common it is for people who work for 1-2 years and then break into IB again. I know it is more common for analysts to be older in London, but what about the US? Thanks
Fairly common in the US too.
I worked for 2 years before moving to banking. Getting reset a year really isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of a 40+ year career either. If it’s the right move for the longer term, it really doesn’t matter.
I spent 2 years in sales and trading at a BB and started back over as a 1st year at another BB to get into IB. It didn’t really matter and probably actually helped me because the senior people all knew I’d already been through a wringer.
shut up
I know analysts who are mid 30s..
Its more common than you think, I wouldn't sweat it
They start immediately after placenta is cut
I'm hesitant to ask from what target they are coming from...
Most are from ultra competitive, low admission rate targets where almost all entries are denied.
Then there are the non-targets…
I was an analyst at 29.
Can you PM me?
24 is soooo old, you’re totally washed. If you start now you cant even make MD until 35+.
Being an analyst at 25-29 is fine, the real issue is when you’re 30+ trying to start a career in banking from a non finance background. Only so much BS you’re willing to put up with as you get older
Truth. I got into PE at 29 as an analyst. I'm now 38 and just made MD.
Still 35+ though
What I'd be worried about is not age but rather not being able to search through the dozens of threads already on this where everyone already says the exact same thing - it doesn't matter
Completely fine in the US
I don’t think it matters at all. Any time in your 20s so long as you have the energy for the job. It skews earlier because this industry is competitive but if you’re good age won’t be a factor until you’re in early 30s, slowing down, starting a family. They want you to be able to grind and pull stupid hours. 24 is perfectly fine
Started at 30y, no one gives a shit bro
Can you please PM me?
