Applying to Junior boutique internships as Sophomore

Hey all, I am a rising sophomore (semi-target) and I am based in Charlotte. From what I've read, as a non-diversity candidate it is a waste of time to apply to BB SA positions for sophomore year internships. There are a number of boutique IBs in Charlotte, and they have positions for junior year internships. So do you guys think this is my best shot at getting a soph year internship, by applying to junior year SA positions at boutiques? I am doing an internship at very small PE firm this summer.

You should apply, but I'm not sure what kind of traction you will get. I personally didn't get much traction doing it in your shoes. I imagine their goal is to find juniors who can eventually be full-time analysts. You may have to cold call/email them to see if there's any interest in a sophomore intern. I never tried to get "on their radar", but it might help.
