Applying to other banks while waiting for my SA return offer?

Apparently my firm is not going to give final answer till late this month or early next month, and some of the banks' deadlines are approaching. Although I do hope to return to current firm if given an offer, I don't want to risk getting no offers as I am pretty set on doing banking after graduation

Will other banks/PE firms talk to my current SA firm (for a reference etc) after seeing my CV? I don't want to be perceived as "not loyal" to my SA firm and end up losing the offer I could have gotten

Appreciate your advice if you work in the industry and know how things work, will you call your buddy at the other bank just to check the applicant?

dude even if you have an offer, there is nothing wrong with testing the market again if you are generally interested in other places, imho. you are not beholden to anyone until you sign that offer letter, and especially since they haven't told you shit, im sure they understand that it is reasonable for you to apply to other banks in the meantime. as long as you are honest and don't bullshit them, i think you need to make the smart decision for yourself and they should respect you for it. if they dont, thats their loss and you wouldnt want to work at a place like that anyways...
