Are MC/PA virtually the only way to become a top level exec in a company?
So basically, I have a long-term goal of becoming a CFO or other high-level executive within a company, and I'm wondering if management consulting, public accounting, and to a lesser extent i-banking are the only ways to go about doing this? Yeah I'm sure there are a few that didn't and have become CFOs, but short of becoming an exception or starting your own firm, are those basically how you go about doing it, or can you start in corp finance and move up?
I've heard of actuaries becoming CFOs, but it's definitely rare.
