Background Check - Government Entities

Am currently undergoing a background with a BB and one HR person reached out to me because I had disclosed a relationship with a government entity (Past internship with a regulatory agency) on the background check application (There was a section asking for any relationships with a government entity). He just asked me for a little bit more information on what I did and whether I did anything that involved the BB.

Probably am overthinking it, but I find it curious as to why I was reached out to regarding this specifically. I think they just wanted to know if my internship had anything to do with the bank specifically (it didn't), but with something that simple, why didn't they just ask for it on the employment application in the first place? And I find it strange they would ask for details on what I did when I had already disclosed that in the employment history part (Unless they never bothered to read that).
