Background check - rescind offer for previous arrest and misdemeanors
Anyone have a rap sheet at major management consulting firms? I have accepted an offer with a major firm but am worried about it being rescinded.
Just did a background check on myself. I have been arrested in 2007 and charged with 3 misdemeanors - underage consumption, disorderly conduct, and assault with intent to injure. Two charges have been dismissed and I'm having the third (disorderly conduct) dismissed as well. Currently that charge says "GUILTY" on my report but hopefully the attorney I hired will have that cleared soon. Charges cannot be expunged (Arizona).
Potential employer will do a background check on me in June. I will obviously disclose info. Will they rescind their offer?
I was in the Marines at the time of the offense and plan to briefly yet convincingly explain the judgement lapse if/when asked the question.

Thanks, and I agree with you. However, what we agree is a good or bad reason to rescind doesn't really matter, which is why I'm asking around. Does anyone have experience with passing background checks despite misdemeanors?
I feel like somewhere along in the process you should have had to disclose this already. If you failed to disclose when asked about it then you are most likely toast. If it hasn't come up yet then you may be able to explain it away.
I haven't been asked background questions yet. The recruiter told me they will do the check in June. I have accepted an offer for a position starting in August.

Did you not fill in an online application? I think every single one I've filled in has asked if I've ever committed a crime.
If you weren't asked, then IMO it would be quite unfair if they rescinded the offer based on charges from years ago that are going to be dismissed soon anyway. If you were asked, and just missed it/ignored it/filled it in wrongly in the application, then you might be in trouble.
After I ran the check I was worried about this so I called the recruiter. I had filled out a lot of paperwork for more than one firm. She told me I had not filled out the background info for this firm yet, that I will be contacted in June to fill it out. I'm going to trust that she knows the process more than me. That being said, I will absolutely disclose. My concern is AFTER I disclose, will they then rescind?
Have a good friend who has been at two BB banks with a DUI conviction - no issues. I think all of yours are less serious than that except the assault with intent, but if that charge is dropped you should be fine. Even if not my best guess is you will be fine.
