Bad luck? Or is this normal…

Currently recruiting for SA '23 from a semi target. Just got a rejection email from Jefferies for my application, didn’t even get a first round. I'm surprised and disappointed since I networked w 3 analysts, a VP, and an MD with Jef being one of my top choices. At the same time, I have made it to 2 SDs at BBs already. Is this just bad luck? Or is it normal/random to not even get a 1st round sometimes.
