Balancing IB & Mandatory Military Service: What do I do?

Currently a sophomore looking for IB jobs for SA 2025, but without any secured internships. But I also have been trying to somehow put my (mandatory) military service in there, and it's not working out well.

I'm a dual citizen (US/somewhere else) that has to do 1.5yrs military service at some point probably within my undergraduate studies, but haven't been able to go to the military after freshman year (which most do) because of my age. Because recruiting is virtually impossible to do during military service (impossible to network/be on video call), I've been left with these options:

  • Go into military sometime Fall 2024/Spring 2025, service ends sometime Spring/Fall 2026. Will have to recruit Fall 2026/Spring 2027 for SA 2028 positions, graduate Dec. 2028/May 2029. A concern, though, is that I will be in Junior standing when I recruit, but I guess I can push my graduation back a semester.
  • If I snag an SA 2025 position, complete it, go to military Fall 2025, recruit full-time for positions starting 2028.
  • Do military service during B-school or after Analyst... but I can already see this is pretty bad.

Obviously it's hard to predict what the job market will be like 2~3yrs from now (hopefully/probably better than right now?) Any suggestions? Any experience you can share being/interviewing/recruiting a non-traditional candidate(s) (military experience, especially with non-US military candidate) is appreciated. A couple of further questions are...

  • What's the view on candidates with military experience but not U.S. military? Is it appreciated/helpful?
  • Are non-U.S. military candidates also considered "veterans" when applying for IB? I know it could be different by firm.
  • Is it better to be enrolled in undergrad or just take a leave of absence while I recruit in Fall 2026/Spring 2027?
  • If I won't be in undergraduate before going to the military/after military ends, should I be having job experience? Or should I just be preparing for technicals?

I know this is a really niche question, but would appreciate any help. Thanks!
