Best places to start financial career?

I am stuck. I want to start a financial career ( Interested in investment, broker work) I just don't exactly know which places are the best. I looked at Edward Jones, Smith Barney ( Morgan Stanley) Merrill Lynch, etc.

I have interviews this week with NorthWestern Mutual, and New York Life. I have heard mixed things about NWM, reading comments on this site is not good ones haha.

I understand NWM and NYL is mainly life insurance, and I have no problem selling life insurance to start out, I am just most interested in the investment side.

I do not have my 7 or 66, so I would need a sponsorship.

I have an extensive Sales background, and many employers love my background.

The thing that attracted me to Edward Jones was they pay you a small salary while you build your business, then turn to 100% comm ( I have no problem working on 100% comm. I worked at a car dealership that was comm, and an Account Manager, so I have no issues with that at all)

My question is, where is the best place to start a financial career on the investment side with no prior experience? I'm really hungry.

It sounds like you would be a good fit in Wealth Management cold calling clients to start out, but i don't know if you have any kind of past financial knowledge. If not, maybe try studying up for a CFA or learning about different types of investments.

Insurance is just such a deadbeat job, but it doesn't require really any prior knowledge. You can learn about the products on the job.

For working at places like NWM and the like getting a CFA is useless. Getting a CFP would be more beneficial.

PWM is a very rough business to get started in. I feel that it would be more beneficial to find an established advisor that you could work under rather than finding the right firm. The turnover rate is quite high throughout the industry and the best way to survive is to work under someone who knows the business and is looking out for you.
