Best Time To Network For Boutique IB? Networking Too Late??

Hi everyone. I'm a sophomore at a non target in the northeast trying to get a boutique IB internship this summer for my sophomore summer to really improve my chances for BB's come my junior summer. My question is, is this month I have during school break (mid December to mid January) a good time to cold email MD's at boutiques? I'd like to get an offer by mid-January before I go back to school. I know boutique recruiting is pretty informal, but am I networking a bit late if I want something this summer or should it not matter too much? Should I have started in the fall or should I be okay? Is it a good time to cold email near the holidays (I'd imagine work slows down)? I just wonder if boutiques have already made offers to kids by now?
