Best way to break in to Investment Management

I have a BS in BA from a state university, 3.1 GPA, with a little over a year in banking experience. I am currently studying for the Level 1 CFA exam. I am wondering what would be the best way to break into the portfolio management field. Should I consider getting an MSF? Would my prospects look great even if I just passed Level 1 of the CFA exam?

Any and all help is much appreciated!
