Best way to get to a HF or PE position
Hello,
So I'm a junior and I have a summer offer from JPM in Sales&Trading. This academic year I've been interning at an AM firm and have realized I loved the buy-side of things. I know I want to work on the buy-side and am now worried the S&T internship is a bit of a mistake (however, too late to switch tracks). I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to what desk in JPM for the summer might be a best option for what I want to do later? There is a "relationship management" desk in Sales that works with all the high-end clients and their MD indicated that allows for great exit opportunities due to network. Is this true? Or should I do a more analytical desk? Again, my goal is to be on the buy-side and work for a HF later on, I'm worried I won't be eligible to do so after my summer internship (as it's not IB) and that I won't be able to get a job closer to this as full time post grad offer. Should I do the S&T and then interview for something else in the Fall?
Can you get an FT offer from this AM firm, or do they have any connections?
Yes, they’ve been talking to me about it- would probably get one from them as well. Would that be a better route?
Do you know how to code?
I know R and some python, but am no expert.
