Best way to study accounting (on-cycle prep, general investing prep)

Incoming FT at an EB looking to do a little bit of prep for on-cycle pe recruiting and general help for my investing path.

I am a STEM major and never took a finance class in my life. Only finance stuff I did was my SA and prep for IB interviews. Never did a proper stock pitch for a company in my life or did a true deep dive of a company's financials. I understand basic finance concepts, but I would really like to form a solid base in my last semester (yes i know, but i have had enough fun in college) and figured accounting would be a good place to start to be familiar with financial statements and it's the language of finance per buffet.

So for a newbie like myself looking to learn accounting not only for on-cycle but my future in this investing path, what is the best source or textbook that will allow me to study this stuff solidly. Favorite books, websites, courses? Thanks.

Read the book Financial Intelligence. That should really be all you need as an accounting refresher. I was also a stem major going into banking and this helped immensely. Very easy read. You’re better off just reading about key Corporate finance topics online. Plenty of great resources

If you have a loose grasp on these foundational topics, I’d seriously consider sitting out your first on cycle until prepared.

If you sit out first oncycle and opt for oncycle as a 2nd year analyst is this looked down upon by top PE firms? Basically doing a 3 year analyst stint versus typical 2 year banking stint.
