Would you take a better job at a better firm but at a city you dislike or would you take a still good job at a city you tolerate. Both would pay the same (adjusted for cost of living). Comes down to better job/potentially worse out of work life OR good job/ok out of work life.

It really depends on a million factors of course but I wouldn’t underestimate the value of being in a place you enjoy with people you care about. If you’re depressed and bored and lonely outside of work, it’s eventually going to manifest into poor work performance and could be a negative for your career over the long term.
