Apparently, BNP Paribas is only recruiting from target MBA programs for its equities, commodities and fixed incomes sales and trading program this year even for summer analyst positions. Any reasons for this? Could this forebode small summer analysts classes for other firms as well?

This is inaccurate unless the situation changed dramatically in the last few months. FT had on-campus interviews already. SA will be this spring.
Also note that a lot of the grad students that come to BNP are Masters and PhDs not MBAs.
I just got an email from HR saying that they "for this summer" they are only recruiting from the b school but they'll still consider my resume
