BNP Paribs SA for S&T or PIMCO SA for Account Analyst Team

Which offer would you accept and why? Obviously these are two different positions. I want to know thoughts on long-term exit opps and advancement in terms of position and compensation. Thanks.

Really, it is tough to make a call here because the positions are so different as you said.

BNP is S&T, which will provide you with the option to go into Hedge Funds, Prop Trading, AM, and f500 treasury positions. The S&T career path is fairly well documented on these boards.

Account analysts manage client relations, and may help conduct sales; of course, as PIMCO's clients are mostly institutional investors, you will probably be responsible for providing updates to clients and answering requests for proposals as opposed to generating new business. Your exit ops will mostly be come from PIMCO's name as opposed to any specific skills you develop. You could move into sales at most firms, or go to bschool. It would be tough to transition to portfolio management internally from account management; the jobs are rather dissimilar.

Really, it is your call as to where you want to be 10 years down the road.

BNP is a french bank and at least in Europe their corporate culture really sucks. I know culture differs from team to team but what I heard and experienced BNP wouldn't be me first choice.

good luck anyway and congrats to the offers.

It might be true in Paris / London in a lesser extent but I don't think it is the same everywhere. The farther you go from Paris the better it is I think. For sure, your bosses will report to Paris but hey, that's the same if you work at GS in Paris. BNP is a good brandname in S&T and it's still one of the biggest universal banks. Personnaly, PIMCO doesnt really ring a bell with me. I had to check what it was on google.

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.
