Breaking away from the "auditor/accountant" brand
So I've been working at a big-4 for over three years.. I was successfully able to escape audit to go into the advisory practice, but because of my "audit background", I get assigned to audit related advisory projects.. such as "reviews" and crap.
I tried removing any hint of "audit" from my resume and linked-in profile, but it seems like recruiters and HR managers still want to "connect [with me] to discuss exciting opportunities in their corporate [internal] audit group"
I interviewed at some financial services firms (i.e. Goldman Sachs) for positions I thought I would like - but I ultimately got called back by HR to interview for their internal audit/financial reporting positions.
So - how have other monkey's dug themselves out of this black hole of audit/accounting that seems to have permanently branded me.
**Note, I'm in progress with the CFA, but so far the only thing that's provided me is opportunities to audit/review things that are more finance related (such as auditing valuation of level 3 financial instruments)
