Breaking into US PE/HF from O/S

Currently a final year UG student in Australia going to a top BB group next year. My dream’s always been to move to the US in HF or PE but hearing that breaking in to PE after IB without going to a US college is near impossible even with an MBA.

Is my best shot just staying in IB, internally moving stateside as an associate and hoping for an exit to HF/PE 5-10+ years down the road? Or do any funds recruit out of analyst classes internationally?

If anyone’s got experience making the jump would love to hear your story.
