Broker wanting to switch to research...

I am a broker at MSSB. I love working their, but as we all know, prospecting is 99% of the work the first few years. I am doing well, but who knows where things will go. Some months are great, some are terrible. Just in case, I like to plan ahead. I have an 8 month internship at Merrill, 6 months at an independent as a IAR (ING Financial Partners) before Morgan brought me in, and I have been there for a year. My undergraduate is from PSU in Finance. Based on my background, what would it take to get into an equity analyst position? Thanks for your help guys.

we brought in a guy from PWM at Wells Fargo (If you're reading this, you talk too loudly on the phone) that made inroads since he used our research service. He came to a couple events that our senior guys attended, talked to them, showed a good understanding of our processes and got an interview. There should be some sell side research firms that MSSB uses and that you occasionally talk to on the phone. Try contacting these people but not outright (hence my mentioning the face to face networking at events read: no emails) and see if you can get any traction.
