brokering/trading

hey guys,

is stock brokering sort of like private wealth management? how does it fare with trading? I've been offered an opportunity to do calling/stocking brokering - would that be helpful in getting a trading position/ib position later on? (some people have said that pwm does little to help other summer opportunities)

thanks!

I worked at a brokerage firm last summer, and my experience was very similar to that of PWM. It was a good expereience, and definitely better than nothing, but its not on par with any sort of analytical position. I have had several I-banking interviews this year. Personally, I think it has helped me get the interviews, because it relates to the markets and shows interest in the industry, but on the other hand, I think not being a position where you do modeling or any sort of analysis has extremely hurt me. But if it is the only thing you have going for you right now, I would definitely take it.
