Canceled Internship

For undergrads that got their internships canceled (not remote/WFH) and are recruiting for SA 2021, what would you answer during interviews when you are asked about this summer. Would taking a couple of summer classes understandable in this situation?

I think it’s totally reasonable, given the circumstances, to tell your interviewer that your internship was cancelled last minute and that you decided to take relevant summer classes instead. Your interviewers are probably thinking about their own job securities to some degree, so they’ll be understanding.

As someone who occasionally helps out with resume/phone screens for my firm, I’ll tell you that I wouldn’t take points off of your application for being a victim of a cancelled internship. That said, I might be curious to know where you were planning on working and might compare it to the places where other candidates are working this summer remotely. In the end, most people know this is beyond your control.
