I hope this note finds you well. I saw that you work for ____ as an Analyst and I am very interested in learning more about your experience and your firm. I have a strong passion for Investment Banking and I highly admire your firms’ prestigious reputation.
Currently, I am working at ____ in NYC in their Valuations practice gaining exposure to valuation and financial modeling. I have prior Investment Banking experience at a boutique firm where I was exposed to the M&A deal process on multiple engagements and gained very meaningful experience.
Would you be willing to take a quick a 15 minute call or meet in person for a coffee in the next couple of weeks in order for me to learn more about your background and experience? I understand you are extremely busy, however, I would appreciate any guidance or advice you would be willing to offer for a young aspiring banker like myself. I look forward to hearing from you. I would try to find a commonality between the two. If he went to your school, say that. If not, maybe try to find someone from your school? Or at least something that doesn't make it seem like you're just some random?
Got it. I went to a non-target, so not a ton of people that got into banking from my school. I will try to reach out to as many as I can , though. Any idea on which people to reach out to? Analysts or Associates?
I'm not sure, only because I've never done a coffee chat request and don't ever plan to. Also, maybe introduce yourself after the "I hope this note finds you well..." he doesn't even know what school you go to
Nice! I know you probably redacted personal info here, but I would highlight specific deals, i.e. "I have previous IB experience at a boutique, $500MM AUM fund where I worked the M&A process of a $10B buyout, or something like that

Good luck dude. This process SUCKS lmao, but you seem like you got some great experience. Just highlight specifics and maybe try to find a commonality between the two (or at least mention how you found him lol) and you should be pretty good!!

It’s been a minute since I’ve done any of these so the above is a bit raw but not far off from what I’d send. I get a lot of messages from college kids about banking/finance and if I can’t read the whole thing in about 10 seconds then I’m less likely to answer.
Thanks. I just wanted to give them a good background about myself but I guess that can be done on the phone. Any tips on subject lines and who to reach out to? It's hard for me to hear back from them for some reason.
