College Freshman at semi target looking for advice on summer internship

I’m about to start my second semester of college and currently have a 3.7-.8 GPA at a school most people would consider on the border between non target and semi target.

I have been interested in finance, more specifically IB, for a while but never considered a career in it until going to school.

I soon realized finance is a very competitive field, and I know plenty of kids who as freshman already have finance specific internships lined up for the summer (mainly due to family connections).

I’ve been feeling a lot of pressure to get an internship for the summer, but I feel like the ship has already sailed. I was wondering if it is to late to apply for, and to get an internship for this summer, and if I can get one of the quality of internship would be worthwhile?

I have a backup option in the case I can’t find one as I can work at my old car sales job and make decent money over the summer.

Any advice on how I can best navigate this situation?

Apply for summer internships, if you don't do anything you're just further digging yourself into a hole...
