Connection pool maintenance

Everyone here stresses the importance of establishing connections for both recruiting and other valid career related reasons; blueprint on how to do that is well established on various threads already.

What I had trouble finding though was how people approach the maintenance of existing connections. If the acquaintance you made is not a friend you share a passion with that you could easily discuss, how do you check in on them? How do you determine the frequency of the pings? What questions do you focus on to both stay relevant and catch up without the bullshit generic dialogue?

Great question and I am looking forward to people’ answers.

I tend to share articles I read about topics we have touched upon when networking or if they are seniors, I send them update on my journey. For instance I send them emails to let them know I have secured an internship and I mention that I thank them for their precious advices that helped me in securing the offer etc.

I also try to get them involved in my professional life, asking them advice for group placement for instance.
